When babies are growing up, the phase comes when they start to eat solid food. This is usually started with baby food from a glass bottle, which is available in a wide variety of flavors. From pasta and rice to vegetables and meat, there is a glass for every taste. In addition to taste, it is of course particularly important that babies are well and sufficiently provided with nutrients and energy and that the baby food is free of harmful substances.
In a test, 20 samples of baby food were examined in this regard.
Low iron content
In 13 of the tested baby foods, a low level of iron was detected, which is extremely important for babies from the age of 6 months. The need is particularly high during this time due to growth and can be covered by baby food. It is very important to check the mineral content of baby food regularly in order to ensure a balanced nutrition.
Nitrate found in small amounts
Nitrate was detected in low concentrations in all the baby foods, except in one sample. Here, elevated values were already found. Nitrate is found mainly in leafy and root vegetables and can reduce the oxygen content of the blood of babies. According to Regulation (EC) No. 1881/2006, the maximum value of 200 mg/kg nitrate must not be exceeded in porridge.
To ensure that your products do not exceed this maximum value and that any risk can be prevented, bilacon checks baby food.
